Construction has kicked off on the mixed-use 744 South Figueroa Street in Downtown Los Angeles, Los Angeles YIMBY reported on March 26. Under development by Mitsui Fudosan America, the 510-ft-tall residential tower with ground-floor commercial space will offer rooftop sky decks allowing tenants sweeping views of LA’s Financial District, the Hollywood Hills and the Pacific Ocean. Plans call for a 41-story structure on a 1-acre site at the corner of Eighth and Figueroa. It will feature glass-and-steel construction and a basic floor area of 424,489 ft2. Inside, 438 luxury residential units will rise above 7,500 ft2 of ground-floor commercial space and four levels of basement, plus six levels of parking. Units will range from studios to two-bedroom units. Designed by Johnson Fain, the permit valuation for the project is approximately US$235 million. Occupancy is expected to begin in 2023.
